The Human Trafficking Training Program is a two day interactive and hands-on training program designed to train law enforcement officers in the rapidly growing international crime of human trafficking, which produces revenues second only to drug trafficking. Over 18,000 persons are trafficked into the United States each year. Traffickers commit a broad array of crimes in their enterprise: immigration violations, kidnapping, aggravated assaults, rape, prostitution, forced labor, and money laundering. Investigations into this crime require a sophisticated skill-set, including detection at the level of the street Officer or Detective, well-developed victim interviewing skills, foreign language skills, surveillance skills, analytical skills, and financial investigation skills. Supervisors must also know how to coordinate multi-agency investigations, since human trafficking investigations typically cross borders and are resource-intensive. Upon completing the Human Trafficking Training Program, student will have learned: · Identify the key characteristics of the crime of Human Trafficking to include all relevant federal laws. · Utilize screening questions to assess when a person is a victim of Human Trafficking. · Understand the mindset of trafficking victims. · Utilize the proper skills to communicate with victims of Human Trafficking. · Understand the resources available to law enforcement to investigate and assist victims of Human Trafficking. · Be able to identify what tools and resources are available to assist victims of Human Trafficking to include: Medical, Housing, Language Resources, and Witness/Immigration Status. · Utilize investigative techniques to include: direct/indirect surveillance, risk assessment, computer investigations, financial investigations, intelligence management and trial preparation.
